The English Law Web Site of Asif Tufal

About Asif Tufal and this Site

photo with kidsThis is the personal website of Asif Tufal.  I am currently Head of Law at a Sixth Form College.  I am also a Senior Examiner for a major exam board.

I was educated at Burnage High School for Boys, Manchester, the University of Westminster and the Institute of Education (University of London).  I previously held lecturing posts at Kingsway College and Tower Hamlets College in London from 1994-2000 and Park Lane College in West Yorkshire from 2000-01 before becoming a Teacher at Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College during 2001-02.  I also worked for a firm of Criminal Defence Solicitors in London during college holidays and days off.

Aims

This site was originally named LawTeacher.co.uk when first launched in May 1999.  It was renamed LawTeacher.net in June 2001 in order to reflect the fact that it is not a commercial enterprise and is part of a network of free-of-charge legal awareness sites.  It was relaunched as a-level-law.com following its purchase by an undisclosed buyer, acting through an agent, in July 2006.  It was originally created for a number of purposes:

  • To provide a stimulating way for my students to research the legal system and substantive law.

  • To enable students who miss a lesson to obtain lecture notes and catch-up with the class (but this is not a substitute for classroom learning).

  • To provide legal information more up-to-date than standard textbooks or casebooks.

  • To promote the use of the Internet as a medium for the dissemination of the law.

  • To provide members of the public with free information.

  • To provide a gateway to the web sites of organisations which ought to be useful and to providers of free legal information.

  • To indulge my interest in computers (I taught myself how to create this website!).

Students are free to print any and all lecture and case notes.  Teachers and lecturers are also free to print any such materials and to photocopy them for teaching purposes provided acknowledgement is made of a-level-law.com.  Any such materials must not be sold.
